About Us
Carrying forward the spirit of 1971 and 2024.
Who We Are
Unity for Bangladesh is a civic and intellectual platform that brings together public intellectuals, academics, activists, and political leaders committed to Bangladesh's democratic future. Established in the wake of the July 2024 uprising, it exists to keep the country's most important questions in open, informed, and honest public discussion.
We operate at the intersection of three roles: a quasi–think tank that produces analysis, a forum that convenes dialogue, and a network that connects people across ideological and professional lines.
Our Origins
Unity for Bangladesh was founded to uphold and carry forward two defining moments in the nation's history — the Liberation War of 1971 and the mass movement of 2024. Both were, at their core, assertions of the same principle: that the people of Bangladesh have the right to shape their own future, freely and with dignity.
The platform emerged from a simple conviction that the democratic energy of 2024 should not dissipate, but mature into durable institutions, serious ideas, and a public square worthy of the sacrifices that built it.
Our Mission
To strengthen Bangladesh's democracy by creating a credible, non-partisan space where rigorous analysis, civil society engagement, and political accountability meet — and where constructive dialogue is possible across differences.
What We Do
We organise public dialogues, seminars, and forums on the national and regional issues that shape Bangladesh's future. Our discussions have engaged questions such as the Arakan crisis, the Teesta water-sharing dispute, civil–military relations, and the foundations of national unity.
Alongside our convening work, we develop written analysis — briefs, papers, and commentary — intended to inform both public debate and policy. Our aim is not to take sides, but to raise the quality of the conversation.
Our Principles
-
Non-partisan
We belong to no party and serve no faction. Our loyalty is to the public interest and to democratic norms.
-
Evidence-based
We ground our positions in research, history, and careful reasoning rather than slogans.
-
Inclusive
We bring together diverse backgrounds, because national questions deserve more than one point of view.
-
Accountable
We believe public institutions, and those who lead them, should answer to the people they serve.
